Come make a ‘joyful noise’ as we celebrate the official Wisconsin kick-off of the national Remake Learning Days Festival at the Madison Children’s Museum’s “Wonderground” on Friday, April 21, from 5-7pm.  See details here!

“Remake Learning Days Across America” is a national festival dedicated to promoting the joy of hands-on learning in 15 regions across the United States and spanning the globe, with three international locations in Uruguay, New Zealand and United Kingdom.

Wisconsin’s own festival, Remake Learning Days: Badgerland, kicks off on April 21 and runs through April 29th, 2023.  This year over 125+ events and experiences are designed and hosted by over 40 local nonprofit organizations – schools, libraries, museums, community centers and more , representing Wisconsin’s southcentral communities from the Wisconsin Dells area to Stateline.

The Kick-Off Party will feature music, dancing and free access to the Museum’s popular outdoor exhibit: The Wonderground

Master of Ceremonies WKOW-27 Storm Track Chief Meteorologist John Zeigler will broadcast the weather live from the Museum for the 5 and 6pm 27 News and will share his love of weather science. WKOW-27 is the Festival’s official media sponsor.

A marching band and performers in stilts pose in front of an inviting playground and a nature-inspired mural.

The 10,000-square-foot Wonderground will be the backdrop for family fun and merriment.  Guests are encouraged to boogie down with dancing dinosaurs & costumed characters, make a joyful noise with the Forward! Marching Band parade, learn about weather, enjoy Hands-on Activity Tables featuring science, arts and crafts activities hosted by local organizations, and explore the wonders of the Wonderground exhibit, including:

  • The Thicket – a 23-foot-tall climbing sculpture takes center stage, weaving together natural structural wood elements into a playful new adventure. Below the Thicket is an Understory area for additional imaginative play.

  • Cocoon Climber– Even kids too small to clamber up the thicket get their own natural climbing and exploration zone. Little kids can build their balance along a series of climbable natural tree structures and other obstacles designed to stimulate their senses and practice coordination.
  • The Orchard, Cabin Yard & Gardens – on a small knoll overlooking the rest of the exhibit space planted with native vegetables, fruits, and grasses. The cabin area includes artifacts for historical exploration, educational programs with food and urban gardening, and a quieter resting area.
  • The Down Under – is a place where beautiful mosaic columns give the space a magical, imaginative feel.

This family-friendly event is free to the public.

The Kick-Off Event is just one of over 125 hands-on learning events offered during the Festival period.  The majority of events are free or low cost and are searchable by age, topic and location via the Festival website.

Festivities continue at locations throughout southcentral Wisconsin through April 29, 2023.  You can find a complete list of events at:  and #RemakeDaysWI
