Code.org Workshop for Administrators and School Counselors
Hosted by: Allegheny Intermediate Unit
May 24 @ 8:30 am - 12:00 pm
The Allegheny Intermediate Unit, also known as the AIU, is part of Pennsylvania's public education system and is one of 29 Intermediate Units across the state. Our organization provides specialized educational services to Allegheny County's 42 suburban school districts and five career technical centers. We employ approximately 1,500 educators at 420 sites and operate 11 family centers and three schools for exceptional children. We offer about 130 programs and services for infants, young children, students and adults.
This workshop is designed for district- and building-level administrators and school counselors. In this interactive workshop, participants will be provided an opportunity to experience Code.org’s free K-12 standards-aligned computer science curriculum.
DID YOU KNOW?….Pennsylvania currently has 17,255 open computing jobs (3.2 times the average demand rate). The average salary for a computing occupation in PA is $85,654, which is significantly higher than the average salary in the state ($47,540). The existing open jobs alone represent a $1,477,959,770 opportunity in terms of annual salaries.
Pennsylvania had only 2,969 computer science graduates in 2015.
Computer science drives job growth and innovation throughout our economy and society. Computing occupations are the number 1 source of all new wages in the U.S. and make up two-thirds of all projected new jobs in STEM fields, making Computer Science one of the most in-demand college degrees.
Lunch will be provided at 11:30 pm for all registered participants.
