The East Kentucky Science Center and Planetarium located in Prestonsburg, KY, is part of the Big Sandy Community and Technical College. It contains a 40 foot dome planetarium that seats 85 people, a 3000 square foot exhibition hall, a 60 seat classroom and a gift shop. The newly renovated Planetarium is now one of the most technologically advanced planetariums in the country. The stars are projected by the GOTO Chronos Spaceflight Simulator; an optical-mechanical projector which projects the stars as realistic looking as the actual night sky. Our new Spitz SciDome HD "full dome" projection system lets the audience experience what it would be like flying through space to other worlds. The SkyLase laser system lets audiences view an infinite display of laser patters while listening to a variety of music. Our sound system is one of the most powerful in the state.
At the East Kentucky Science Center we pride ourselves on creating unique science experiences with hands-on learning! Come join us as we take out all stops and plunge into a world of fun as you experiment with our interactive stream-table, build a circuit, program a Bee-bot, study fossils and more! Plus, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to pet a chinchilla and look into the eyes of a bearded dragon. Soar into space in the planetarium, see the night sky and catch a laser show! The sky is the limit at Remake Learning Days at the East Kentucky Science Center!
