KATU Innovation Challenge Overview:
85 middle and high schools teams across Oregon participated in the KATU Innovation Challenge culminating during Oregon STEM Week May 8-16 (with $10,000 of prize money to be awarded to winning teams).
Creating a “Cleaner, Greener, Healthier Planet” is the theme of the KATU Innovation Challenge, sponsored by PGE Project Zero, Daimler Trucks North America, First Tech Federal Credit Union, Intel, and powered by Construct.
Students started their innovation journey in March, by choosing a problem they saw in their community that they were passionate about solving for, including (but not limited to): Eliminating Single-Use Plastic, Expanding Access to Electric Vehicle Systems, Ensuring Clean Fresh Water is Available, Making Cities Safe and Fun, and Responsible Consumerism.
The student teams were coached through the human-centered innovation process by Construct coaches, received mentorship from Industry advisors, and developed solutions to contribute toward a Cleaner, Greener, Healthier Planet.
We were blown away by the creativity and innovativeness of the 60 student teams (113 students from 18 schools) projects that were submitted. Linked below are the selected Finalists’ final pitches, who will have pitched their concepts to a panel of judges on May 6th – winners will be announced on the KATU Innovation Challenge News Special on May 14th, from 9-10am PST – Stay tuned!
