Probability Festival: Let's not leave it to chance! Students will make decisions and learn about probability and chance as they engage in real world scenarios and games.
Preservice teachers will collaborate to apply knowledge of student learning of fractions, percentages, decimals and odds to develop games of chance and probability for 6th grade students at Annville Elementary School. Students have difficulty with problems involving compound events. Centers will be designed to respond to student difficulty with tools and games to support students in building their understanding of probability of events and chance. Students will participate in centers to learn and apply these concepts in various real-world situations and engaging hands-on activities. Students will be able to choose an area they want to explore at the fair. We have a casino in our community and students will examine chance and outcomes by applying knowledge of mathematics to help them make decisions. The Probability Fair will partner LVC future teachers and students in a festive environment to tackle these concepts. Students will collaborate and solve problems to make decisions throughout the event.
