All About Soils Workshop:
Participants will learn firsthand about soil genesis, soil microbiology, soil textures, soil nutrient management, and soil-plant relationships. Students will visit an on-site soil pit to understand soil horizons and the role of roots in the soil environment. Each student will collect two cups of soil and plant a seed inside to take home and visualize the difference in how the same type of seed may germinate and grow differently in diverse types of soil. The basic premise of this course is aimed at providing a better understanding of where our food comes from, and the role of soil in feeding the world.
