About this Event

The 18th Annual Progressive Agriculture Safety Days is a one-day outdoor event teaching 2nd-grade students from Clarion County essential safety skills through interactive, hands-on activities focused on farm, home, and outdoor safety.

This one-day outdoor event provides a unique educational experience in an engaging and fun format. The program emphasizes safety at home, on the farm, and outdoors, with students rotating through various age-appropriate activities and demonstrations led by local volunteers.

The event is part of the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day™ initiative, which focuses on injury prevention and making safety education accessible to children. Participants are divided into small groups to ensure personalized instruction, where they explore a variety of topics such as tractor safety, animal handling, grain bin dangers, mental well-being, Lyme disease prevention, fire safety, water safety, and more. These sessions are designed to be immersive and practical, equipping children with tools and techniques they can use in real-life situations. For example, students may learn about safe gardening practices, first aid, sun protection, or how to handle emergency situations involving farm equipment.

In 2024, the event saw tremendous success, with 848 students from 18 schools participating and 306 volunteers contributing their time and expertise to make the event possible. Schools provide transportation and lunches for the children, while the Progressive Agriculture Foundation covers the cost of insurance, curriculum materials, and t-shirts. Additionally, thanks to generous donations from local sponsors and organizations, each student receives a cinch bag filled with educational materials, such as first aid kits, tick removal tools, sun beads, plants, and other items designed to reinforce the lessons learned during the day.

The event’s mission is deeply rooted in the community, with support from numerous local businesses, civic groups, and individual sponsors who help ensure the event remains free for schools. Keystone SMILES CLC, a nonprofit organization, spearheads the fundraising efforts to cover all associated costs, making this crucial safety education accessible to all students in the region.

Progressive Agriculture Safety Days is not just about teaching safety; it’s about fostering a culture of awareness and responsibility among the next generation. By introducing children to these essential life skills at a young age, the program aims to reduce accidents and injuries while empowering students to make informed decisions about their safety and well-being. With a strong focus on community involvement, hands-on learning, and age-appropriate education, the event continues to grow in popularity and impact, making a lasting difference in the lives of local children and their families.

For those interested in supporting this initiative as a volunteer or sponsor, contact Joyce Fosdick or Jennifer Welton through Keystone SMILES CLC at 814.797.2127. Together, the community can continue to invest in the health, safety, and future of its youngest members.
