About this Event
Build your own bridge just like Emily Roebling!
In celebration of Central PA’s Remake Learning days 10th Anniversary, Linglestown Elementary School students will join this international event and show their love of STEAM through the creation of bridges.
When Emily Roebling’s husband, Washington Roebling was injured, she “served as both nurse and private secretary, taking over writing all of her husband’s letters and keeping his notebooks. She also reviewed construction plans, visited the site and met with contractors and bridge officials.” Without Emily’s “infinite tact and wisest counsel,” the famous bridge might not have been completed by Washington, the chief engineer.
Lower elementary students will be inspired by Secret Engineer-How Emily Roebling Built the Brooklyn Bridge. They will then use teamwork, collaboration, and Keva planks to construct a sustainable bridge that will hold the most matchbox cars.
The upper grades students will learn about how How Emily Saved the Brooklyn Bridge. Students will also use teamwork, collaboration, Keva plans, BEBLOX, Legos and other materials to create the strongest bridge. Once they create their bridge they will see which one is most sustainable by placing matchbox cars along the length of the bridge.
All students will have time to create, design, and tinker around with the materials.
