About this Event

The Ivanhoe Earth Day Festival, held Friday, April 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Center (3700 Woodland Ave.), is a free, family-friendly celebration featuring hands-on activities, interactive exhibits, and educational booths that connect youth and families to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and local resources focused on protecting our planet.

Celebrate Earth Day with the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council on Saturday, April 18th from 11am-2pm during this hands-on, family-centered festival designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and environmental stewardship.

The Ivanhoe Earth Day Festival transforms our neighborhood center into an interactive outdoor classroom where youth and families explore science, sustainability, and the natural world together. Through engaging, experiential learning opportunities, participants will discover how everyday actions connect to larger environmental systems.

Children can enjoy a live educational performance by StoneLion Puppet Theatre, bringing environmental themes to life through storytelling and visual arts. Families will also experience an interactive animal exhibit, offering up-close learning about wildlife, habitats, and ecosystems.

Throughout the festival, educational booths hosted by local sustainability-focused organizations will provide demonstrations and hands-on activities centered on:

• Recycling and waste reduction

• Composting and soil health

• Renewable energy

• Wildlife conservation

• Native plants and pollinators

• Climate awareness and environmental responsibility

Participants will have opportunities to plant seeds, explore the basics of food systems, learn how compost supports healthy soil, and engage in STEM-based activities that connect science concepts to real-world applications.

Located at the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Center, our site includes a learning farm, community garden, orchard, and native plant demonstration spaces — allowing families to see environmental education in action. Youth don’t just learn about sustainability; they experience it firsthand.

This event is designed to be intergenerational. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate alongside children, reinforcing that learning is lifelong and that protecting our planet is a shared responsibility.
