My name is Taleah Wright. As a ninth grader, I’ve realized that my life is a blend of different worlds. My world consists of the quiet focus of a sketchbook, to the high energy of a basketball court, and the deep roots of my community. If you see me without a pencil in my hand, it’s probably because I’m holding a basketball. Drawing is how I process the world; it’s my way of capturing a feeling or a moment on paper. It allows me to be meticulous and imaginative. However, I’m just as comfortable in the heat of a game. Basketball has taught me how to be a leader and how to stay resilient when the clock is ticking down. I love the contrast between the stillness of art and the fast-paced teamwork of the court.
When I’m not practicing or sketching, I usually have my head in a book. Reading has sparked a major obsession with learning new things and exploring different cultures. I’m fascinated by how people live across the globe, and I’m always looking for opportunities to experience new traditions and perspectives. To me, every new piece of information is a way to grow into a more well-rounded person.
Above all, I am defined by the people who support me. My family, church, and community are my backbone. Whether I’m volunteering at a local event or participating in church youth activities, I believe in giving back to the places that raised me. Staying involved keeps me grounded and reminds me that my goals aren’t just about my own success, but about how I can contribute to the world around me. I’m just starting my high school journey, but I’m ready to see where my passions for art, sport, and service will take me next.
