About this Event

Rock County has and continues to play an important role in our State's history.  Come find out why!

Travel back in time – be it years, decades or centuries – and explore Wisconsin’s history through the stories of those who lived it at the Rock County Historical Society!

Each site on the Rock County Historical Society campus has a unique past and stories that enchant today. Take a tour, view an exhibit or dig up your past and add your own story to Rock County’s growing history!

The Lincoln Tallman House (1857)

Step back into time and visit the home of the William Morrison Tallman family, learn about the visit of their famous guest Abraham Lincoln, and immerse yourself in 19th century life while learning more about this Wisconsin family and life in the late 20th century.

While you’re there, also check out the historic Tallman Carriage House (1857) and Wilson King Stone House (1842) on campus.

Frances Willard Schoolhouse (1853)

Get ‘back to basics’ inside this authentic 19th century one-room schoolhouse. Built in 1853 and used by famous WI educator Frances Willard, the schoolhouse serves as an educational venue offering hands-on activities for visitors and hundreds of children each year.

The Rock County Legacies Museum & Visitor Center (1915)

Your campus visit starts here. Enjoy special exhibits, explore the permanent collection of history artifacts, get hands-on with history, see what’s happening on campus – and more!

The Rock County Historical Society enriches and engages communities through the preservation and dissemination of the unique history and heritage of the Rock County region.  Gathering today in the Rock River Valley, the Rock County Historical Society acknowledges the Indigenous People whose ancestors thrived for thousands of years in this region and welcomes all the First Nations.
