About this Event

Eco Day is a community celebration which highlights the natural heritage of Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, as well as the role that our watersheds play in providing healthy, living environments and recreational activities to our community.

Eco Day is a community wide collaboration between Mifflin County High School’s Ecology and Wildlife and Fisheries students, STEM education interns, MCSD teachers, local and state environment and sustainability stakeholders with ALL 5th grade students at Lewistown Intermediate School, Indian Valley Elementary Center and Sacred Heart SchoolEco Day is an annual event eagerly anticipated by students and teachers alike!

Diverse high school student led and community partners led environmental sustainability and recreation stations include:

Community partner led stations

  1. PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Stream in a Bucket
  2. Trout Unlimited- fly casting

Student led stations

  1. fish ecology
  2. bees and pollinators protection
  3. tree identification
  4. erosion and erosion prevention
  5. animal tracks identification
  6. skins and skulls exploration
  7. building solar ovens

 

This is event is intended for Mifflin County School District educators, high school students 5th grade students and invited guests. Eco Day is not open to the public.
