About this Event
Readers Cups is a reading competition designed for Year 9 students. Teams of four students (+one reserve) together read a set of six books, and then compete with other school teams to answer quiz questions from these books.
Readers Cup competitions challenge students to read widely, work collaboratively in a team and continue
developing a love of reading. It allows readers to compete an interschool level, similar to sporting events
and to meet other students with an equal passion for books. Year 9 is a perfect age level. It profiles reading
in a year when there are so many new activities offered for students that reading can be neglected. Year 9
is often a year that is neglected in a Secondary School in the terms of major competitions or opportunities,
so Readers Cup is an ideal forum to profiles those students.
- 6 texts and 6 questions on each text with a total of 10 points per book
- Questions are objective, not subjective. The answer is in the book very clearly stated.
- Questions are read aloud and are also projected on a large screen. Each question is allocated between 25-
35 seconds depending on the type of answer required. These times are pre-set on the powerpoint. - Teams work together to agree on an answer and the answer is written on the answer sheet.
- At the end of each round the sheets are collected and taken to the judges table.
