About this Event
There's a whole world under the logs rotting in our woods - explore it with us!
There is a whole universe that lives beneath logs! Insects, spiders, millipedes salamanders and snakes form an intricate ecosystem that is based on decomposition. Join us at the Ingrid Graham Historic Hellam Nature Preserve as we explore life under logs and discover why these habitats are so important to forested ecosystems.
Where to Meet: Upon entering to the preserve, follow the long gravel drive back veering right as the road splits. This will take you to a gravel parking lot where our group will meet.
Note: Graham Nature Preserve is not yet open to the public.
What to expect and how to prepare: This will be an easy 1-mile hike on flat terrain. We will turn over logs as we go. Dress for the weather. Bring drinking water. There is a restroom available on site. This event is recommended for ages 10 & up (participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult).
