2025 Burrell Community Connections - May 6, 2025 from 5-7pm at Charles A. Huston Middle School - Where families, students, & local organizations come together to engage, explore, & celebrate our community through STEAM activities, valuable resources, & meaningful connections!

We have scheduled our 2025 Burrell Community Connections event for May 6, 2025 from 5-7pm at Charles A. Huston Middle School. We are planning for this to be our “community facing event” for Learning 2025 during the Remake Learning Days window.

We have partnered with ABC Create to offer a STEAM playground for students/families in our gym (several ABC Create teachers from neighboring districts volunteered their time to help with the STEAM activities).
Our Parents as Allies team is collaboratively planning the event with our middle school principals and coaches and the City of Lower Burrell. We will have several engagement activities in the main hallway to gather thoughts, ideas, and feedback from stakeholders.
Pittsburgh Area Community Schools (formerly CISPAC) have provided food boxes and had a lemonade stand where they were able to talk to families about the services they offer, which was connected to our middle school “Bucco Boutique” clothing closet available for anyone to shop in for free that evening (clothing, school supplies, hygiene items, etc).
We have had over 60 local businesses and community organizations represented as well – sharing info about their services, offering games / activities to build relationships with families, and some even connected with people about job opportunities.
Our first year (2023), we held a smaller event and had a couple hundred people turn out. Last year (2024) we had close to 1000 students, staff, families, and community members attend.
