About this Event
The Curious Minds Dive Foundation collaborates with I.CARE as citizen scientists, where I.CARE will lead a presentation on coral restoration, covering coral biology, reef challenges, and their solutions, followed by a virtual Q&A and videos showcasing their research.
Are you curious about marine biology, science, and protecting the environment? The Curious Minds Dive Foundation, in collaboration with Islamorada Conservation and Restoration Education or I.CARE, invites high school students (ages 14-18) to discover the world of coral restoration and explore exciting career pathways in marine science. This is your chance to become a citizen scientist and learn from real professionals making a difference in the ocean.
Here’s what you’ll experience:
An Informative Presentation by I.CARE’s Scientists
I.CARE will lead a presentation covering key topics in coral biology, explaining how coral reefs are formed, the critical role they play in ocean ecosystems, and why their survival matters to our planet’s health. You’ll also learn about the challenges reefs face today, including climate change, ocean acidification, pollution, and overfishing.
I.CARE’s Innovative Solutions
You’ll discover how I.CARE is actively working to restore coral reefs. Their scientists use groundbreaking techniques to address the problems coral reefs face, from growing coral in controlled environments to planting them in damaged reef ecosystems. This is a unique opportunity to see how science is being applied to solve real-world environmental challenges.
Virtual Interaction with Scientists
After the presentation, you’ll have the chance to speak directly with I.CARE’s scientists in a live, virtual Q&A session. Ask them questions about their research, their career paths, and how you can get involved in marine conservation. This is a perfect opportunity to learn about potential careers in marine science.
Coral Restoration in Action
I.CARE will show you videos of real-life coral restoration projects, including coral fragging (a technique for growing new corals) and underwater monitoring (tracking the health of restored reefs). You’ll see firsthand what it’s like to be a coral restoration scientist and gain insight into the day-to-day tasks involved in preserving these vital ecosystems.
Citizen Science
Citizen scientists play a critical role in environmental research, and you’ll get to experience it firsthand. Through hands-on activities and real-world research, you can contribute to ongoing conservation efforts. Whether you’re collecting data, observing coral health, or helping with field research, you’ll see how anyone can get involved and make a meaningful contribution to preserving the ocean.
Why Get Involved?
Explore Career Pathways in Marine Science: Discover what it takes to become a marine biologist, environmental scientist, or researcher.
Learn from Experts: Gain valuable insights from scientists who are leading the way in coral restoration.
Get Inspired: See how science can make a difference and how you can become part of the solution to ocean conservation.
This event is your chance to dive into the world of marine biology, learn from professionals, and explore how you can get involved in saving coral reefs. Don’t miss this opportunity to become a citizen scientist with the Curious Minds Dive Foundation and I.CARE.
