About this Event

Join us for the Duo Cup: Community Chess Tournament, the first event in The Duo Cup, a four-tournament youth chess series hosted by Queens Gambit Chess Institute and supported by Duolingo. Designed for students in grades 2–8, this welcoming, community-centered tournament celebrates learning through play, strategic thinking, and confidence-building.

This beginner-friendly event shows how chess helps young people develop focus, problem-solving skills, and resilience – abilities that support success in school and everyday life. All experience levels are welcome, from students learning their first moves to those with tournament experience.

Participants will enjoy structured, age-appropriate competition in a supportive environment that emphasizes growth, sportsmanship, and joyful learning. Families and educators will also learn about Duolingo as a free, accessible learning resource that encourages continued curiosity at home and in the classroom.

The Duo Cup responds to growing interest from students and families for inclusive, high-quality chess opportunities that challenge young players while remaining accessible to all. By bringing tournaments into community spaces, Queens Gambit creates opportunities for every child to participate, build confidence, and experience the excitement of competition.

This event kicks off a year-long tournament series continuing throughout 2026, culminating in a championship that celebrates student progress, persistence, and love of learning.

Whether your child is new to chess or ready to compete, the Duo Cup Community Chess Tournament is a place to learn, connect, and grow!
