Discover drones, resin art, coding, anime, and more at the Lighthouse STEAM Showcase & Maker Event! A hands-on celebration of youth creativity and innovation with activities for all ages. Join us for an afternoon of fun, learning, and community!
Join us for the Lighthouse STEAM Showcase & Maker Event on Friday, May 16 at the Homewood-Brushton YMCA — a hands-on celebration of youth creativity, technology, and community collaboration!
This interactive event will transform the YMCA into a vibrant space filled with discovery and innovation. Explore a wide variety of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities hosted by local partners, teaching artists, and youth creators. From flying drones in the gym to crafting with resin kits, making tea blends, and exploring coding games with BootUp, there’s something for every age and interest.
In the café, enjoy a Studio Ghibli anime movie screening and take part in anime-inspired art projects. Upstairs in Lighthouse Studios, express yourself through Haiku writing and audio recording, where guests can write and record their own three-line poems using our professional studio equipment. The Maker Market and YCS activity zone will showcase student-led projects, giving you a chance to see and support the incredible ideas being developed by young makers.
Additional hands-on experiences will be offered by Carnegie Science Center, Assemble, and more, with floating facilitators available to help you dive into each station. It’s a space designed for learning by doing—where families, youth, educators, and community members come together to build, explore, and create.
Snacks and pizza will be provided, and event photographer Alex will be capturing the magic throughout the afternoon. All activities are free, open to the public, and family-friendly.
