Celebrating Black Business Innovators – Hands-On Learning for Kids!
Join us for an exciting Remake Learning Days event where kids will explore the legacy of Black entrepreneurs through fun, interactive activities! Designed for Pre-K through 5th grade, this hands-on experience will introduce children to Black business leaders in beauty, fashion, and food, while engaging their creativity, problem-solving, and sensory skills.
What to Expect:
Kids will rotate through three engaging activity stations, each inspired by a Black business pioneer who changed their industry.
- Haircare Science with Madam C.J. Walker – Inspired by the first Black female millionaire and beauty mogul, this station explores haircare science! Children will learn about different hair textures, test natural ingredients used in hair products, and practice brushing and styling techniques on wigs or printed templates. They’ll discover the importance of self-care and representation in beauty.
- Sneaker/Dress Design Challenge with Daymond John & Elizabeth Keckley – Black entrepreneurs have made a huge impact in the fashion industry! Kids will explore the legacy of Daymond John, founder of FUBU, and Elizabeth Keckley, a renowned dressmaker and businesswoman. They’ll learn about sneaker culture and early Black fashion entrepreneurship before designing their own sneakers or dresses. Using printed templates and craft materials, students will create unique fashion concepts, complete with colors, patterns, and logos, celebrating both modern streetwear and historical elegance.
- Flavor Lab: Create a New Ice Cream Concept – Inspired by Augustus Jackson, the “Father of Modern Ice Cream,” and Ben’s Chili Bowl, this activity explores how flavors are developed—without using real food! Kids will engage their sense of smell by testing different scents (like vanilla, cocoa, and fruit extracts) and matching them to printed food images. Then, they’ll create their own imaginary ice cream flavor using colored paper, playdough, or pom-poms to represent ingredients. Older students can name their flavor and describe why people would love it!
