About this Event
NLA's Remake Learning "Operation Soft Landing: Egg Drop Challenge" event will allow students to engineer a protective device to prevent an egg from cracking when being dropped.
Students and their families at NLA’s Little Warrior Afterschool Program at Pittsburgh Woolslair will participate in this year’s Remake Learning event. Students will work in small groups to construct a device that will prevent an egg from cracking when being dropped from various heights. This STEM activity will highlight the Science and Engineering practices of developing and using a model. This experiment will generate creativity, persistence, teamwork, and iterate problem solving. Students will use trial and error to make adjustments to their design and test their devices from various heights. Staff will lead students in discussions about how this activity connects to real life situations. Students will discuss how this activity relates to facing challenges in their own lives and the benefits of trying different approaches to resolve those challenges. Students will be able to reflect on how they learn from their mistakes and failures both within the activity and their lives. NLA will provide light refreshments for students and families in attendance.
