Sports & Literacy Challenge

About this Event

This is an interactive, sports-inspired literacy event where kids combine reading with physical activity. At each station, they complete both a literacy challenge and a sports-based activity before advancing to the next station. At the end, every participant gets a free book.

Join us for an interactive, sports-inspired literacy event where kids combine reading with physical activity! At each of the 4 challenge stations, they complete both a literacy challenge and a sports-based activity before advancing to the next station. Each participant receives a scorecard to check off activities as they go. At the end, every participant receives a free book! 

1. Dribble & Read Challenge

1. Literacy Task: Read a short sports-related passage (2-3 sentences).
2. Sports Task: Dribble a basketball around cones.
3. Bonus: Answer a comprehension question to “earn an assist” for their team.

2. Word Sprint Relay

1. Literacy Task: Unscramble sports-related words (e.g., PASS, GOAL, COURT, TRACK).
2. Sports Task: Run a short relay race while passing a baton labeled with a book title.
3. Bonus: Say a sentence using one of the unscrambled words for extra points.

3. “Finish the Story” Shot Challenge

1. Literacy Task: Kids get a short sports-themed story prompt and finish the last sentence.
2. Sports Task: Shoot a mini soccer ball or basketball into a target to “score.”
3. Bonus: Read their completed sentence aloud for extra points.

4. Book-Toss & Trivia Finale

1. Literacy Task: Answer a fun trivia question about famous athletes who love to read.
2. Sports Task: Toss a beanbag “book” into different point-value targets.
3. Bonus: Guess a book title based on clues for an extra prize.
