About this Event
This is a family-friendly event is designed to engage homeschool students from PreK – 12th grade to dive into all five areas of STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math with interactive activities, demos, and experiments at stations spread throughout the museum!
- Investigate the technology of the trolley era by exploring real trolley and streetcar parts and equipment. Compare what makes trolleys operate to how cars, buses, and other transit vehicles work today.
- Discover how electricity works, how trolleys and streetcars use electricity in order to run, and then construct working circuits of your very own.
- Build the tallest Trolley Observation Tower possible without causing the tower to collapse!
- What will transportation look like in the future? Dream up plans for how we’ll be getting around in one hundred years and design your own LEGO® streetcars and trolleys of the future.
- Explore the colorful artwork and history of the many different custom paint jobs featured on local trolleys (like the psychedelic “Mod Desire” and the Pittsburgh fan favorite, “The Terrible Trolley,”) then design your very own streetcar and shrink it down to pocket size to take home!
- Examine the amazing power of the Sun! Discover how we use solar energy to power our trolleys, then make your very-own ultraviolet-detective bracelet out of special UV-reactive beads to take home.
- Complete a streetcar-themed Scavenger Hunt in the Trolley Display Building.
