About this Event

Explore some of Japan's traditional art techniques at the library. We will use water marbling -Suminagashi- to dye paper fans, practice origami and calligraphy. We will make some traditional Japanese snacks to enjoy with some tea.

The Japan-America Society will join us at Northern Tier Library to share some traditional Japanese crafts such as Origami (paper folding) and Furoshiki (wrapping with fabrics). We will discuss tea ceremonies, make a rice paper treat and dye some paper fans using Suminagashi. Suminagashi is the art of painting with inks over water or other mediums so the effect left in the paper is marbled and abstract.
