About this Event

Join us in exploring stop-motion animation through gekimation--a type of Japanese animation.

This Teen Time will explore stop-motion animation through gekimation. Stop motion, also known as frame-by-frame animation, involves taking a series of photos of objects that move slightly between each shot. When these frames are played back quickly, it creates the illusion of movement, much like a flipbook but with physical objects instead of drawings. Derived from the Japanese word gekiga, which describes manga aimed at adults, this style of animation dates to the 1970s with the animated series Cat-Eyed Boy, adapted from Kazuo Umezu’s horror manga.
