Remake Learning Days fills the DMV region with fun from May 14-22

This year’s Remake Learning Days Festival in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia (DMV) regions includes a significant number of in-person events — a welcome change after the pandemic made the festival mainly virtual last year.

The festival’s local organizers, Linda Leftrict, senior advisor, business strategy & audience engagement at KID Museum, and Jacqueline Eyl, chief program officer at KID Museum, are both excited that the region has more than 50 in-person events scheduled during May 14 through May 22.

And the topics they will explore are wonderfully varied. Remake Learning Days DMV will bring multidisciplinary learning to children through events on farms, creative experiences in a mobile maker space and much more.

The goal, according to Leftrict and Eyl, is to “have broad and diverse organizations hosting events in all the theme areas of the Festival. This helps families have access to many different types of STEAM activities and build their own unique pathways for their children.”

In addition to building these learning pathways for kids, the festival focuses on the importance of family-engaged learning. The different events throughout the festival will allow families and their learner to grow together.

“When families are engaged in learning together, children have opportunities to see that learning is not something that only happens in school and that we never stop learning about ourselves, others and the world around us,” said Eyl. “Families that learn together lead to children having stronger emotional health and they are better prepared to navigate the world and contribute to a bright future for all.”

5 Events to look forward to in the DMV region from May 14-23

  1. 5/14- Planned to Perfection: Landscape Design: Discover the work of a landscape architect and make pressed flower art that represents your own creative vision at Dumbarton Oaks

  5. 5/22- Open Explore Family Day and Grand Opening at KID Museum: From a community big build maze to take-home projects at the Maker Buffet

All of these fun-filled events in the DMV region have come together because of the help of the community as a whole.

“We are excited that so many of our colleagues in the DMV have developed in-person, innovative and creative events for our community this year,” Leftrict said.

KID Museum in Maryland is once again the regional host of the festival. The museum is featuring the grand opening of their new flagship location in the DMV, which is happening during the festival on May 22. In addition to the partnership with KID Museum, Remake Learning Days DMV have multiple other important partners that have helped curate and diversify the festival.

“Our partnership is really about engaging the community and all of our event hosts,” said Leftrict and Eyl. “We have actively engaged with organizations in the Black and Brown Coalition to ensure the diversity of our reach and impact. KID Museum and the Montgomery County Public Schools have had a long-standing partnership and they have worked with us to engage their parents and kids in communicating the benefits and goals of RLDAA.”

All of these events created for learners and their families will be held from May 14-22 in the DMV region.
