Let Rube Goldberg show you how to have a not-so-humdrum day! Let's use all of our STEAM skills as we tinker, make and create contraptions that ring a bell or capture a mouse!
In celebration of ENGINE of Central PA’s Remake Learning Days, Rutherford students will join this international event and show their love of STEAM through the creation of Rube Goldberg styled contraptions and machines. Upper elementary students will work collaboratively to design and build contraptions that incorporate a minimum of 5 steps for a machine that ultimately rings a bell or captures a mouse. Student inspiration will come from listening to the read alouds: Just Like Rube Goldberg and/or Rube Goldberg’s Simple Normal Humdrum School Day. Student groups will utilize a variety of maker materials as they engineer and test their designs. Lower elementary students will be introduced to Rube Goldberg styled machines by working with peers to assemble and play The Mouse Trap Game. All students will have the opportunity to interact with the older students’ contraptions during future visits to the library and hear explanations of “how they work” from their creators.
