About this event

Join LEAF - K-12 Forestry Education for a morning session exploring its new 4th grade Curriculum, and KEEP - K-12 Energy Education for an afternoon session exploring a series of energy investigations.

MORNING SESSION (9:30 AM-12:30)

Explore LEAF’s New 4th Grade Curriculum

For the past several years, LEAF has been working on an in-depth project to revise and update our 4th Grade Forestry Lesson Guide, which focuses on Wisconsin’s forest history. After including input from state Tribal representatives, 4th grade teachers and forest products professionals, we are happy to announce the release of a newly revised guide that more accurately represents the full history of the forests in our state. Join us for the morning portion of this workshop to explore LEAF’s new 4th grade lessons that are even more relevant and engaging for all students. Participants will dive into this updated curriculum, getting hands-on practice with activities that help students understand the important role our forests played, and continue to play, in our state.

AFTERNOON SESSION (1:00-4:00 PM)

Flip a Switch: Using Phenomenon to Engage Learners in Energy Education

Elementary Educators (Grades 3-6) are invited to join Wisconsin’s K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP) to explore a series of energy investigations that help students understand how flipping a light switch leads to filling a room with light. Educators will actively participate in lessons and receive links to Google resources that can be used in their classrooms. Themes explored through the phenomenon of “flipping a switch” include: where electricity comes from; the impact getting energy has on the environment; and how energy gets to homes and buildings.
