REAP Project UCSD and Mundo Gardens teach Bioremediation We will use natural products and organisms to remove contaminants from the environment. Plants use solar energy (through photosynthesis) to extract chemicals from the soil and deposit them in the above-ground part of their bodies, or convert them to a less toxic form. Plants can also use this process to remove pollutants and contaminants, like heavy metals, in the soil. The curriculum will be presented both online and in person due to limited capacity. On hands planting will take place at the event. In addition community input will be documented for next steps on healing the land in the surrounding areas.
